Luis Pantoja is the founder and head instructor of Estilo Jiu Jitsu in Washington, DC, and a third-degree black belt. He received his black belt in 2009 under Mario and Fernando Yamasaki and Francisco Neto of the Yamasaki Academy, and under that academy's umbrella he started the District's first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program. He has nearly 20 years of teaching experience and more than two decades of competition, including second place in no-gi at the 2015 IBJJF New York International Open. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he holds a degree in Sociology from George Mason University and speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. His classes are built around problem-solving and decision-making, asking students to think through a position and work out an effective response.
