Marcelo Cavalcanti is the owner and head coach of MC Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (MCBJJ) in Carson, California, and also operates MCBJJ Visalia. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, he began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1992, following his brothers, under Grandmaster Carlson Gracie and instructors Ricardo Liborio, Marcus Vinicius and half guard creator Roberto "Gordo" Correia. He moved to the United States in 1998 to continue training at the Rigan Machado Academy, and in 2003 was awarded his black belt under Rigan Machado. The academy lists him as a 4th degree black belt under Roberto "Gordo" Corrêa and a Ring Team affiliate. Cavalcanti also offers seminars to other academies and community organizations such as the Braille Institute and YMCA after-school programs in the South Bay area.
