Ricky Nelson is the founder and head instructor of Nelson Jiu-Jitsu, a family-first American Jiu Jitsu academy in St. Cloud, and holds a 3rd degree black belt. A professional firefighter and United States Marine Corps veteran, he built his grappling foundation through high school and military wrestling before transitioning to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2008. Nelson discovered Jiu Jitsu during challenging periods of his life and used training to manage stress, build discipline and develop composure under pressure; he brings the responsibility and calm decision-making of his firefighting and military background into every class. He teaches American Jiu Jitsu as a system of defense, control and accountability rather than aggression, for kids, teens and adults.
