Professor Vanderson Gomes is a fifth-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who teaches at his own school, Vanderson Gomes BJJ, in the St. Louis area. He began in judo at age seven and switched to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at 13, in 1993, and has been in the sport ever since. As a competitor he collected three World Championship medals along with European, North American, Brazilian and Pan American titles and multiple IBJJF gold medals. He also spent 16 years as an IBJJF referee in Europe and the United States and helped establish jiu-jitsu schools across the US. Gomes has a particular interest in teaching children, and he sees the art as a way to build discipline and confidence in young students.
